In-/Output Festival huge success
The In-/Output Festival proved to be a historic page in the On-U Sound book. A debut appearance by Denise Sherwood, Little Axe with Skip, Keith and Doug, Mark Stewart + Maffia live on stage for the first time in years and a Tackhead live jam as an ear-bleeding bonus. In-/Output was broadcasted live on Dutch Radio 4. The broadcast is still available via the website of 4FM, just click?the In-/Outputlogo.
It was years ago since they shared one stage.?All Tackhead members were busy with their own projects and stuff, but it was a true family reunion, October 18 at the In-/Output Festival at De Oosterpoort in Groningen The Netherlands.
Because Little Roy had problems with his visa, the program was slightly changed, creating an opportunity for Mark Stewart to do four tracks with The Maffia (Keith LeBlanc, Skip Mcdonald and Doug Wimbish), the first time in years. "This didn't happen since 1989", said Skip. "This is a historic night. It may never happen again." To top of a great night of awesome music, mixed into outer space by Adrian Sherwood, was a ferocious live Tackhead jam by Keith and Doug.
Adrian Sherwood presented a complete On-U Sound line-up. He was selected by NPS's 4FM, Dutch national Radio 4, to set up the festival because of his awesome portfolio in music, explained 4FM producer Paul Harvey before the show.
Adrian Sherwood kicked off the evening with his On-U Soundsystem featuring Ghetto Priest (Vulture culture) as MC, then Skip McDonald took over with Little Axe (drums: Keith LeBlanc, bass: Doug Wimbish), followed by Junior Delgado with band. Sherwood was the first creator/curator of the very first edition of In-/Output, an attempt by 4FM to make a difference and add some quality to the main stream music you hear on the radio most of the time. In-/Output must become a yearly event and kicks off with an exciting line-up.
Paul Harvey wasn't afraid the first edition would be a boring one, he said beforehand. "Adrian is someone with an open mind. He has done so many things. He was into reggae, but also punk, dancehall and world music. I know for sure this is going to be more than just a reggae night. It's Dubs and Beats and it can go anywhere."
Paul Harvey was right. Check it out.
